Why I’m Running

Hi, I’m Rini!

I was born in Theni, India and immigrated with my parents to the US when I was seven. I’ve called DC home for over a decade.

I’m a federal contractor who has spent my career improving government programs and citizen services.

Public service has shaped who I am. I helped lead the first all-women ticket when I was elected Student Body President at University of Southern California, worked in neighborhoods as a field organizer, and managed higher education nonprofit programs. When institutions fall short, I organize, I speak up, and I work to change them.

Washington, DC is one of the best cities in the world to live in, despite the failures of our city leaders. But we can dream bigger. Around the world, thriving cities show what’s possible when the government pairs competence with creativity: vibrant neighborhoods, strong local economies, and a shared sense that the city is moving forward. That’s my dream for DC.

I’m not a politician. I don’t owe any special interest groups. It’s time for an outsider who is relentlessly focused on fixing our basic city services. That’s why I’m in the race to be your new Mayor, and I hope we can work together to create a better DC.

My career has taught me that results happen only when we set clear goals, gather data, build strong teams, and have the discipline to follow through. That same standard is what I hold the city I call home to.

The failures of DC government came into sharp focus during our early February snowstorm when neighbors couldn’t leave their homes, people with disabilities were stranded, and workers lost income because the city failed to deliver basic services.

I found myself asking a simple question: why can’t our city deliver, even on the basics? For me, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

After more than a decade of watching City Hall fall short on its basic promises, this moment made clear that it was time to step forward and take responsibility for fixing a government that asks for more and more from residents while delivering less in return for our taxes.

As Mayor, I’ll take inspiration from world-class cities that work well and apply those lessons in ways that fit Washington. That means a safer and more affordable DC, a thriving economy, and a better life for you.

Let’s get to work. Let’s fix the basics.
